Whale watching

Sjóferðir are pioneers in whale watching in the Westfjords. The company was the first in the region to offer this service and has deep knowledge in the field and the most experienced whale watching crew. This ensures that passengers almost always see whales during whale watching organized by Sjóferðir.

Summer 2025 we are expanding our Whale watcing operations.

 

We are offering over 200 departures and for the midnight tours we are bringing our hydrophone to listen to the whales.

 

To ensure that everyone gets a proper tour we have hired a whale expert as our lead whale guide.

 

Tom Grove is the Co-director of Whale Wise, a non-profit organization dedicated to marine conservation and has studied marine mammals in Iceland since 2017 (including Ísafjarðardjúp since 2021).

 

In 2024 Tom started the  „Whales of Ísafjörður“ project collaborating with whale watching companies, universities and students to monitor humpback whales in the region.

 

We are very excited for Tom to bring us to the next level and the offer the best Whale watching tour in Ísafjörður.
